18 Month Update

It is hard to believe that our little boy is a year and a half already! The time is gone by so fast, but we just love the stage Wynn is at right now. His daily learning is amazing and his curiosity and excitement about everything is contagious!

He really is a little man now and can maneuver around the house with ease. Opening and closing doors is a breeze! Wynn loves to shut himself in rooms to play a version of peekaboo and if you’re using the bathroom you’re likely to hear a knock on the door and “Mama, where are you?”  He also knows right where everything goes and loves to help cook, to get things out of the fridge or freezer (especially popsicles!), throw garbage away and bring my clothes to me to get dressed (although we’re working on his fashion choices!). He'll even help with my curlers if I bring those out!

We decided to get ear tubes for Wynn back in late May. He had way too many ear infections and had some stubborn fluid that would just not drain and was causing some very mild hearing loss. While we were nervous about the surgery, it was so quick and simple. Wynn was done and out of the operating room in less than 10 minutes. He woke up a few minutes later and we headed back home. After a cat nap in the car, we had our normal, energetic little boy back!

Wynn has been continuing to chat up a storm and enunciating words much better since his ear tubes were placed.  He is a little myna bird, repeating almost anything you ask him to say. He’s been trying some sentences too which is exciting for us! He learned avion (airplane in Spanish) at school and anytime he sees an airplane in the sky he points and yells “AVION!” It is pretty entertaining, especially when he asks “More avions?” like he thinks we can order them on demand. He also has mastered yellow as his first color and it is such a cute word coming out of his mouth. I think it is so funny that he knows the word mole and will help you find any you many have if you ask!

His favorite activity this summer has been playing outside and at the cabin. He had his first bee sting and the cabin this summer and was such a trooper. He was stung on the ear and cried for only a minute or two until he was distracted by lunch! He continues to be a good little eater, eating most everything except for green veggies and sour fruits. He also likes to share food with us and the cats. He usually won’t take no for an answer so if he brings food to you and says “Wanna bite?” you’d better open up!

We also discovered play dough this summer and Wynn’s love for busses and puppies. He got to ride in a school bus at Bjorn & Danielle’s wedding and has had a love for them ever since!  He had so much fun being kissed by my aunt & uncles golden labs, and now loves puppies too! We laugh when he brings his bus (full of people and one puppy) on the couch and pushes it off the edge to crash down below. He’ll look at the aftermath with his hands on his head and shout “Oh no!! The people! The puppy!”

Our little guy also has turned into quite the sports nut. I wonder if he gets that from his dad?? They had fun cheering on USA this summer together during the Olympics. Adam taught Wynn to chant "USA! USA!" Wynn also loves baseball, football, basketball, but really has a thing for golf. He’s really pretty good at swinging the little golf clubs he got from Jon & Melissa and making contact with the ball! 

Wynn is also a big fan of songs and books. His favorite songs are The Wheels on the Bus, I’m Bringing Home a Baby Bumblebee and Happy Birthday. He’s got the actions down to the first 2 songs and it is so very cute to hear him sing Happy Birthday. He’ll look around the room for the lucky recipient and sing “Happy day . . . Dada!” He also can’t get enough of books at bedtime. He wants to know the name for everything and will point at things on each page asking “That?” until he’s got the book down pat. His favorite book right now is Charlie the Ranch Dog by the Pioneer Woman, because it contains so many things he loves, puppies, horses, cows, frogs, fish and tractors! Thanks Aunt Lindsay and Uncle Matt for getting him that book!

Adam and I are astonished with how much energy Wynn has. He will literally run circles around the house! He just loves to tackle and wrestle around with you too. Sometimes we will look at each other and say, "Wow, he is crazy!" However, most of the time we look at each other and say, “What a good kid.” Wynn is so smart, so sweet, so friendly to everyone, and so easy to smile. I know we’re biased as his parents, but we think we have a pretty special little boy.

It is the best thing in the world to have a child that smiles just to see you enter the room, tugs at your hand for you to help with something, constantly wants up to see what you are doing and thinks that you can move the world (or at least order airplanes in the sky on demand!). I know he won’t stay small forever, so I’m trying to soak in each hug around my neck with his little arms and cherish every memory.  He has recently started saying “I love you,” which of course just melts my heart! I love you too Wynn, always and forever.
