The weekend of August 25th and 26th we
had two very important events in the Geason family, my cousin Nicole’s wedding
and our annual family reunion! When I think back to the family reunion last year we were in the midst of sweltering heat and had to stay inside. While we
did have a very HOT summer this year, we were thankful for beautiful weather on this particular weekend to enjoy lots of time outdoors.
My cousin Nicole had a lovely Saturday evening wedding at
the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum to her love, Dan. They had a gorgeous, rustic
wedding with so many beautiful finishing touches. If you knew Nicole, or her
mom, my Aunt Mary Ellen, you would expect nothing less!
We sat on picnic blankets during the ceremony and watched
the happy couple say their vows amidst a nature filled backdrop. Nicole looked
stunning in her vintage inspired dress! Did you notice she’s not wearing any
shoes? She promised her little sister, Allysa, when they were little that she
would walk down the aisle barefoot with her toes painted bright red, and she
stuck to her word all these years later! Nicole’s brother, Ryan, sang a
heartfelt song at the ceremony, and later at the wedding he and Allysa gave a
joint speech to their older sister. It was so funny, yet touching at the same
time. They are the sweetest of siblings, a credit to their parents, Mary Ellen
and Mike, for sure!
The reception was intimate, but they filled the room to the
brink with many loved ones. Dan had cut down a tree in their backyard a few
weeks prior and they used wood slices to decorate the reception – cake platters, name
cards, candle holders, etc. So creative and my favorite part of the
decorations! Nicole even made her own wedding cake, used my grandma’s lace
linens on the tables and had family friends make all different kinds of the
most awesome cheesecakes. I love how everyone contributed to make this a
special day for them!
We had a fun evening celebrating with everyone. Wynn is the
youngest kid in the family (for now) and loved tagging along with my cousin’s
kids. He really looked up to his cousin Alex and followed him around
everywhere!
The next day the family met up again at Lake Riley for the
annual Geason family reunion. I think the first reunion was back in 1991, so we’re
going on 21 years!? It was a relaxing day after being up late the night before.
We had fun grilling out, catching up, playing games (Kyle and Adam won the
balloon toss!), and swimming in the water. Wynn loved all the attention from
the older kids and got lots of ball playing in, so it was a good day all
around!
I have to also credit all the photographers for this post - I didn't have to use my own camera once! Thank you Lindsay, Erin, Alex and the professional wedding photographer: Everybody Photography.
