Ladies and gentlemen . . . we’ve got a tooth!

The big new milestone in our house is the arrival of Wynn’s first tooth! It kind of surprised us as we didn’t really even know he was teething! He has been drooling and constantly chewing on things for months, so we didn’t know when to expect his first tooth.

Looking back, I think there were some signs of teething, but Wynn and I both had a case of the sniffles from traveling so we just chalked it up to that. He was a “complaining (i.e. more whiny than normal)” for a few days, had a runny nose, started waking up in the night and had less of an appetite for a few days. It is hard to tell what was from having a cold and what was from teething!

I had been looking for signs of a tooth every few days and we finally noticed a little bump under his gums. A few days later it had popped through and now you can really feel the tooth. It is sharp! We did observe that the drooling was worse those few days and that he was REALLY gnawing on things. He reminded me of a dog playing tug of war with the way he would pull and shake his head back and forth with something in his mouth! He usually did this with Adam’s fingers . . . ouch! All in all it wasn’t too bad, so I hope the rest of his teeth arrive with the same result.

I’m a little inexperienced in the world of baby teeth, so maybe some of you moms can help me with a few questions . . .

§         How long does it take for the tooth to fully come up?
§         When should we expect the next tooth?

Thanks!! :)

  1. Yay for Wynn's first tooth!!! :) As you know, all babies are differnt, but anyways, with M once it popped through, it still took quite a while for it to fully come all the way in. She only had her two bottom teeth for FOREVER, then around 11 months she started getting all 4 middle top teeth, and two more on the bottom. Right now, her 2 newest bottoms are almost all the way up, but her top teeth are abouth half way down.

So jealous Wynn likes the water...Madison hates it!

Thanks so much for her birthday gift! :)
