Wow it’s been quite some time since I’ve taken the time to blog! Life has gotten a little busy for me in the past few months. I’ve been super busy at work with my current project and while it has been a little stressful at times, it has been a great opportunity for me and very rewarding. However, usually the last thing I want to do at the end of the day is blog after working 8 hours, playtime with Wynn, family dinner, bath time and bedtime! At the moment, I am on a business trip to Costa Rica, so with 7 hours in flight each way, I thought this would be the perfect time to catch up! Please excuse the long post as it is more for our memory books than anything . . .
So much has changed since Wynn’s first birthday, the main one is that we are practically chasing around a little runner! Wynn started walking full time right after his first birthday. He has had great balance on his feet for a long time, but seemed to be hesitant just to string some steps together on his own. One day we were at Target and Wynn saw the big outdoor balls. He started pointing and yelling “ball,” so we of course bought him one to take home. Once we got home, Wynn started casually walking to go chase after the ball like it was no big deal! He has been walking ever since and now is so fast he is practically running! He loves to take your hand and walk side by side with you, it is so very cute.
We also have quite the little chatter box on our hands. He is constantly talking and seems to learn a new word every week. Sometime we can’t believe how fast he picks things up and we have really had to watch what we say lately! These are Wynn’s words at 14 months: Dada, Mama, all done, cheese, no, yes, bath, tree, bottle, balloon, bird, shoes, ball, basketball, bye-bye, hi, hat, up, oh no, egg, banana, apple, chicken, yum, nose, Elmo, thank you and bubble.
He also likes to make sounds to imitate things like: meowing like a cat, roaring like a lion, making monkey sounds, cheering “yeah!” while clapping, saying choo-choo like a train and vrooming for buses, cars, trucks, etc. He still signs quite a bit and will sign: drink, eat, more, please, wash (to wash his hands), will blow kisses and wave hi and bye. Wynn has also been learning body parts and if you ask will point to his nose, teeth, eyes, head and belly. My favorite is when you say eyes, he will start batting his eyes lashes very flirty like!

Wynn has developed quite a little personality and definitely has a mind of his own! He is so funny and loves to laugh, but also can be quite stubborn and gets frustrated when things don’t go his way. Although, I will have to say he’s gotten pretty good at asking for help when he needs it by pointing to something and signing please. He is very independent and likes to do everything on his own, especially eating. He gave up nursing and the bottle like a champ.
He loves to rough house and wrestle, but still loves to cuddle too. He loves to get dirty and LOVES playing outside, but also loves to get clean. He really likes to wash his hands and has so much fun at bath time. For some reason our strange little boy thinks it is so funny when you splash him in the face. He plays a game each night at bath time by running and hiding when the bath water comes on. He loves to be caught and put in the tub! Similarly, he will run away when you mention the word diaper and a chase always ensues to change him!
After bath time, Wynn loves to have some dance time where he puts on his sunglasses and dances around. We’re working on his moves for all the upcoming weddings this year! He also loves to sing and will clap for you if he thinks your singing is particularly stellar. At bedtime, Wynn loves to read the same books over and over again. Let’s just say we had one week where “The Wheels on the Bus” was the only book we could read, and reading it 5-6 times a night resulted in a trip to Target to find another book that had a bus in it!
The last big change of the past few months is that Wynn is now in the toddler room at daycare. I think it was a harder transition on me and Wynn’s teachers than it was for Wynn! We’ve grown pretty attached to the teachers in the baby room and they have gotten pretty attached to Wynn too. Even though we’ve moved just next door and still see them all the time, there may have been a tear or two shed in saying goodbye!
However, Wynn was such a champ at the transition and his teachers are so impressed with how well he has handled it! He loves getting to play outside on the playground for a couple hours each day, the fun art projects, science experiments and “circle time,” where they all gather in a circle and sing, dance or read books. He’s now down to one afternoon nap for a couple of hours a day and he even naps on a cot at school!
We’re in such a fun stage with Wynn right now where he just soaks everything up and is learning so much so fast. Where did our little baby go?! I look back at pictures and can’t believe he is so big already, but we’re so incredibly proud of our little toddler!
